Reflecting Back, Focusing Forward

2022 was an incredible year of growth and achievement for DMHA. To reflect on and celebrate our team’s accomplishments, we’ve put together an overview of last year’s wins and our vision for 2023.

Reflecting Back

Community

We believe that an uplifting workplace creates genuine connection between our team, strengthens partnerships with the community, and produces excellent design results. Here are a few ways we celebrated connection and supported our community in 2022:

  • Picked up 148 bags of litter and trash along our Adopt-A-Highway Section of Highway 154 in the Santa Ynez Valley.

  • Sponsored and Attended the Santa Barbara Community Prayer Breakfast.

  • Attended the Hope Refuge Luncheon to raise support and awareness for one of our noteworthy non-profit clients.

  • Sponsored and attended the UCSB Economic Forecast at The Granada Theater.

  • Hosted a Beach Dog Walk Party at Hendry’s Beach with our team.

  • Attended the AIA National Convention in Chicago, visiting Mies Van der Rohe’s foremost buildings.

  • Sponsored the Brooks + Scarpa Lecture in SB for our AIA and Community, bringing together the SB Foundation, AIASB, Architectural Foundation of SB and Community Housing Coalition.

Awards

We are committed to doing what we love, loving what we do, and finding joy in the process. Here are a few awards we were honored to have received in 2022.

  • AIA Honor Award for Design

  • AIA Architectural Heritage Award

Focusing Forward

We strive to remain on the edge of innovation, and this commitment requires continuous curiosity, learning, and growth – both personally and professionally. We are thrilled for the projects underway in 2023, including residential, commercial, and institutional work. Dedicated to the principle of “placemaking,” we are excited to continue working on transformative projects throughout our community in 2023. Some of these include Hotel Santa Barbara and a Linden Avenue urban revitalization in Carpinteria. Additionally, Ryan Mills is spearheading multiple resort projects in Mexico and throughout the US that incorporate meticulous and inspiring design details.

Grand Opening | the Inn and Mattei’s Tavern

As of last week, the Inn at Mattei’s Tavern is officially open! The Inn is a historical gem that originally opened as the Central Hotel in 1886 and served as a popular stagecoach stop during the California Gold Rush. While carefully preserving the true historic structures, our team designed a new resort experience with 67 luxury guest rooms and cottage-style accommodations. We are thrilled by the final result.
