Santa Barbara County Community Services Department

The Santa Barbara County Community Services Department interior renovation project involved a full recycling and repurposing of a 45-year-old outdated and inefficient office facility. The main challenge was to preserve the original 1969 era concrete building structure, while creating revitalized and functional interiors with energy efficient and green features for users. Warm grey interface carpet tile (50% post consumer recycled content), and ocean blue, agave/moss green and sandstone yellow ochre walls were inspired by SB County park settings, which are managed by the Community Services Department.

Exposed concrete ceilings and mechanical systems complement a fresh palette of natural colors, materials and finishes inspired by local County of Santa Barbara park settings. The County of Santa Barbara desired a renovation that remained true to the building’s original structure and exterior historical integrity. This transformation provides a great example of a fresh, cost-effective and energy efficient office space upgrade, which will serve as an innovative model for the future of aging County of Santa Barbara facilities.
