UCSB Manzanita Village

Goleta, CA
800-Bed Student Housing Complex
Completed 2005

Manzanita Village is an 800 bed student housing complex located on an extraordinary bluff top site over- looking the Pacific Ocean. The site planning and design of this state-of-the-art facility embraces the dramatic ocean context while providing a rich variety of settings for student life. Anchored to the overall campus grid at the Village Central Plaza, the residential houses are organized into three quads, organically shaped by the site yet, yet comprised of repetitive, economical housing units linked by vertical nodes of social activity. Each quad is formed around a social green and is accessed from the Central Plaza as well as through intermediate “back doors” that provide vetical connections & bicycle parking. Michael Holliday FAIA was Principal-in-Charge for this job with DesignARC and MRY Architects and was involved in all phases of project completion.
