50,000 sf Student Housing Development
Completed May 2012
The Loop is an exciting mixed use, student housing project located in the heart of Isla Vista CA, a vibrant college town a stones throw from the University of California Santa Barbara. The project team’s commitment to high energy efficiency standards and sustainable design goals was awarded with a federal grant and partnerships with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories and SCE to develop one of the most ‘sustainable’ student housing developments in California. In addition, it will be followed by the Department of Energy Commercial Building Partnership Program as a case study for future projects of this type.
The development lies on a busy pedestrian corner, with ground floor consisting of commercial, Residential lobby, and a greatly reduced garage utilizing parking lifts and a zip car program.
48 Unique units occupy the three floors above, topped by an event roof deck with unobstructed views of the mountains, campus and Pacific Ocean. A twisting Corten steel tower anchors the corner, flanked on both sides by “virtual” buildings of varied urban-styled architecture.
This project was developed for Mesa Lane Partners in collaboration with Mayer Architects.
