Finestra Cafe

Downtown Santa Barbara, CA
2,800 s.f. Interior Renovation
Completed 2006

Finestra Cafe was a unique interior and exterior design project located in the heart of historic La Arcada in downtown Santa Barbara. Finestra means “window” in Italian and the operable glass doors that embrace the perimeter of the facility open out onto the surrounding paseos and sidewalks. The interior was designed to cost effectively transform a rough concrete interior shell into a finished “big room” with a classic yet contemporary feel. The mixed food fare includes breakfast, lunch and sometimes dinner therefore the lighting on the interior has been designed to adapt to changing conditions creating a warm, inviting, comfortable ambience. The large two story interior volumes were accented by the floating interior ceiling elements which contain interior lighting to warm up the interior and to address acoustical concerns. Michael Holliday FAIA was Principal Architect for the project with DesignARC.
